About

For many older LGBTQIA+ adults, social isolation and loneliness aren't just occasional feelings. They can be persistent challenges that significantly impact wellbeing.

What is this research about?

Rainbow Connections is investigating how community-based groups, clubs and activities can help reduce isolation and improve wellbeing for older LGBTQIA+ adults. While loneliness affects people from all walks of life, research shows that LGBTQIA+ elders face unique challenges that general community programs might not address.

Think about it: many older LGBTQIA+ adults have lived through periods of significant discrimination and may have experienced rejection from family, religious communities, or healthcare services. These experiences can make it harder to build and maintain social connections later in life.

How will this research help?

The ultimate goal of Rainbow Connections is to create practical guidance for LGBTQIA+ organizations, community services, and charities.

We want to help these groups better understand:

•Which types of programs most effectively support social connection

•How to adapt existing services to be more inclusive

•How to deliver these programs in ways that respect the diverse experiences of older LGBTQIA+ adults

By participating in this research, you're helping us build stronger, more connected communities where LGBTQIA+ people can thrive at every age.
